    Towards a multicentric quality framework for legal information portals: An application to the DACH region

    Legal Information Portals (LIPs) are central information offerings that give various user groups digital access to the law, including legislation, legal acts, or even court decisions. LIPs could provide access to complex legal content in a user-friendly yet accurate way, while exploiting the benefits of open data to enable easy access to legal content for other applications. However, the development of LIPs traditionally adheres to formal legal criteria, leaving users out in the cold. As a result, even the most modern LIPs fall short of providing a user-centric offering. To address this issue, we present a multicentric quality framework to help providers develop and evaluate LIPs by assessing their data quality, data portability, and usability. We apply the framework to the LIPs of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (the DACH region: D: Deutschland [Germany], A: Austria, CH: Confoederatio Helvetica [Switzerland]) to illustrate its use and identify quality differences between their current systems. Our quality framework for LIPs helps decision-makers better understand and exploit the possibilities for the dissemination of legal information as part of their open justice initiatives. We contribute to the literature by complementing previous conceptual works with a concrete, comprehensive measurement schema that also serves as a basis for assessing user requirements and data portability configurations in other domains with high content complexity

    Strategies towards enabling lithium metal in batteries: interphases and electrodes

    Despite the continuous increase in capacity, lithium-ion intercalation batteries are approaching their performance limits. As a result, research is intensifying on next-generation battery technologies. The use of a lithium metal anode promises the highest theoretical energy density and enables use of lithium-free or novel high-energy cathodes. However, the lithium metal anode suffers from poor morphological stability and Coulombic efficiency during cycling, especially in liquid electrolytes. In contrast to solid electrolytes, liquid electrolytes have the advantage of high ionic conductivity and good wetting of the anode, despite the lithium metal volume change during cycling. Rapid capacity fade due to inhomogeneous deposition and dissolution of lithium is the main hindrance to the successful utilization of the lithium metal anode in combination with liquid electrolytes. In this perspective, we discuss how experimental and theoretical insights can provide possible pathways for reversible cycling of twodimensional lithium metal. Therefore, we discuss improvements in the understanding of lithium metal nucleation, deposition, and stripping on the nanoscale. As the solid–electrolyte interphase (SEI) plays a key role in the lithium morphology, we discuss how the proper SEI design might allow stable cycling. We highlight recent advances in conventional and (localized) highly concentrated electrolytes in view of their respective SEIs. We also discuss artificial interphases and three-dimensional host frameworks, which show prospects of mitigating morphological instabilities and suppressing large shape change on the electrode level

    Across disciplines, researchers increasingly recognize that open science and reproducible research practices may accelerate scientific progress by allowing others to reuse research outputs and by promoting rigorous research that is more likely to yield trustworthy results. While initiatives, training programs, and funder policies encourage researchers to adopt reproducible research and open science practices, these practices are uncommon inmanyfields. Researchers need training to integrate these practicesinto their daily work. We organized a virtual brainstorming event, in collaboration with the German Reproducibility Network, to discuss strategies for making reproducible research and open science training the norm at research institutions. Here, weoutline eleven strategies, concentrated in three areas:(1)offering training, (2)adapting research assessment criteria and program requirements, and (3) building communities. We provide a brief overview of each strategy, offer tips for implementation,and provide links to resources. Our goal is toencourage members of the research community to think creatively about the many ways they can contribute and collaborate to build communities,and make reproducible research and open sciencetraining the norm. Researchers may act in their roles as scientists, supervisors, mentors, instructors, and members of curriculum, hiring or evaluation committees. Institutionalleadership and research administration andsupport staff can accelerate progress by implementing change across their institution
